Judicial Process Division

Responsibilities

The Judicial Process Division, a part of the Planning and Research Department, handles all seizures of foreclosure property ordered by the courts by virtue of writs of seizure and sale, garnishments, attachments, fieri facias, sequestration, and possession.

Staff

Five full-time support and two part-time support personnel are assigned to this branch of the Sheriff's Office.

Public Auctions

Movable and immovable property is seized and, after time delays and advertisements are published in the local legal journal, sold at a public auction. These auctions are held at the front door of the Parish Courthouse on Wednesdays at 10:00 am, and items are sold to the highest bidder. Payment is due in full at the time of the sale.

Seizure & Garnishments of Wages

Garnishments of wages are processed through the Civil Department's seizure branch. Service of notice of seizure is made on the employer and payments are sent to the Sheriff's Office for processing.

Subpoenas

The Judicial Process Division also handles civil and criminal subpoenas. There are three full-time and two part-time process servers, which make service of subpoenas. Records are kept of all subpoenas. Evictions are also done on property that has been seized and sold if the occupant fails to vacate as directed.
