Sheriff Greg Champagne and Richard Keller, chairman of the parish's Council on Aging, announced the creation of a local TRIAD program on April 23, 1997.
"We have a growing elderly population in St. Charles Parish, so meeting the needs of these people is a big challenge for law enforcement and community agencies," Champagne said. TRIAD is a national concept operating under the belief that together, with sheriffs, police chiefs ,and seniors globally joining forces, better programs and services can be provided to the elderly.
TRIAD is managed by a SALT (Seniors and Lawmen Together) board. Input from senior citizens is also sought as to what type of crime prevention programs would best benefit them.
