Taxicab Drivers

ST. CHARLES PARISH VEHICLE FOR HIRE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS 
  1. Apply for TEMPORARY CPNC Number
    St. Charles Parish Dept. of Planning & Zoning, 14996 River Rd., Hahnville, LA 70057
    Appointment Required – Call (985) 331-3747 to schedule an appointment.
    • Vehicle and registration MUST be on-site to apply.
    • Application for a CPNC number must be submitted with $200.00 fee (check/money order).
    • If the vehicle is determined to be likely to meet requirements, a 30-day/Temporary CPNC # will be issued with a letter authorizing the vehicle to be equipped. 
    2.  Apply for TAXI DRIVER’S PERMIT
         St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, 260 Judge Edward Dufresne Pkwy, Luling, LA 70070
         Appointment Required – Call (985) 783-1280 to schedule an appointment. 
         For questions, call (985) 783-1280.  
    • Bring Temporary CPNC issued by Planning & Zoning.
    • Bring valid Louisiana CDL/Chauffeur’s license.
    • Bring Well Health Certificate (Physical & Drug Screen Test obtained from physician). Results cannot be dated more than 14 consecutive days.
    • $26.00 Money Order – Louisiana State Police Background Check Fee **
    • $40.00 Cash – Vehicle For Hire Application Fee
    • $10.00 Cash – Fingerprint Fee for In-Parish Residents or $20.00 Cash – Fingerprint Fee for Out-of-Parish Residents  
**Due to the backlog at the Louisiana State Police, the background check may take up to 2 months.

You will be notified by mail when approved. At that time, bring proof of insurance, vehicle registration. You will be given a COPY of Taxi Driver’s Permit.
    3.  Obtain PERMANENT CPNC
         St. Charles Parish Dept. of Planning & Zoning, 14996 River Rd., Hahnville, LA 70057
           Appointment Required – Call (985) 331-3747 to schedule an appointment.
    • Vehicle must be on site to obtain the permanent CPNC.
    • Vehicle must be registered, outfitted, inspected, and insured as a FOR HIRE vehicle. Tropical Brake Tag Station, 3013 David Drive, Metairie, LA  (504) 885-2969.
    • Applicant will receive a decal and placard.
     4.  OCCUPATIONAL LICENSE
        St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office, Tax Office, 15045 River Road, Hahnville, LA 70057
    • Bring the COPY of Taxi Driver’s Permit, CPNC number, proof of insurance, and vehicle registration to Tax Office.
    • File application and pay for Occupational License.
      • $50.00 January 1st through June 30th 
      • $25.00 July 1st through December 31st   
    5.  TAXI DRIVER’S PERMIT Issued
        St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, 260 Judge Edward Dufresne Pkwy, Luling, LA 70070
        Bring CPNC issued by Planning & Zoning and bring Occupational License/Receipt issued by Tax Office, at which  time the Taxi Driver’s Permit CARD will be issued.

Note:   Applicants must be 18 years of age and must be able to read and write English. An applicant for a Taxi Driver’s Permit must be either a citizen of the United States or a lawful permanent resident (“green card holder”) thereof. Proof of either citizenship or of permanent resident status shall be submitted by the applicant at the time the application is made. An applicant for a Taxi Driver’s Permit must reside in St. Charles Parish for a period greater than 6 months. All applicants must have a valid CDL/Chauffeur’s License. Applicant must complete all paperwork without assistance. If permit is denied, above-mentioned fees are non-refundable.
