Personal Life
Captain Gelston has been a resident of St. Charles Parish but currently resides in Kenner. She still has many connections through friends and family who are members of the St. Charles Parish community.
Professional Service
Captain Gelston began her law enforcement career with St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in the spring of 2005, assigned as a Deputy in the Corrections Division. She graduated as Valedictorian of her class from the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office Regional Louisiana POST Academy in December 2006. She became a Taser Instructor in 2011. She was certified as a Corrections POST Instructor in 2014, thus allowing her the opportunity to train Corrections Officers. In 2016, she had the honor of attending Taser Master Instructor School in order to become a certified Master Instructor in the instruction and use of the Taser. Captain Gelston has spent her Law Enforcement career in the Corrections Division, working in Booking, the Records Division, and as a Watch Commander, charged with leading a shift and ensuring the facility is safe and secure. In December 2017, Captain Gelston was promoted to Deputy Warden of the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center.
Education & Training
Captain Gelston graduated with Honors from Archbishop Chapelle High School in 1999. After high school, she attended Nicholls State University, where she became a charter member of Pi Sigma Alpha, Alpha Gamma Alpha Chapter- 2004, which is a National Political Science Honor Society. She graduated from Nicholls State University in 2004 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government with a concentration in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology.
