Training

Function

The Training Division provides and coordinates all training efforts for St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office personnel. The mission is to provide the highest quality professional law enforcement training possible.

Facilities

The St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office new Training Center & Special Services Complex was dedicated on September 22, 2015.  The training center, located in Luling, La., is the hub for all training endeavors within the Sheriff’s Office and provides three modern classrooms including a lecture styled auditorium, gymnasium, locker rooms, health center, and office space for the training staff.

In-Service Training

The Training Department conducts mandatory in-service training programs to ensure skills and certifications are maintained and that employees receive the most current updates and instruction possible. Deputies are required to maintain annual certifications in first-aid, firearms, defensive tactics, use of force, legal issues and recent court decisions, and statutory law updates.

Other in-service training courses provided to personnel are night-firing, emergency vehicle operations, vehicle stops, leadership, active shooter response, policy and procedure updates, and down officer rescue. The Sheriff’s Office also hosts Louisiana Hunter Education classes and Louisiana Concealed Carry classes for the general public at the Richard H. Benoit Memorial Firing Range.
